The plastics allowed for food containers and packaging in China are polyester, polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, melamine, urea-formaldehyde resin, etc. Among them, polyethylene and polypropylene are safe plastics that can be used to contain food. Most PVC bags are toxic and cannot be packaged with food. Polyvinyl chloride plastic products will rapidly decompose in a high temperature environment and release hydrogen chloride gas.
Moreover, the unpolymerized vinyl chloride monomer in polyvinyl chloride resin will be harmful to the human body, do not contain high-temperature food.
In terms of degradation rate, polyvinylidene chloride is the easiest to handle, followed by polyethylene materials. Polyvinyl chloride is not easy to handle, chemical reactions occur during incineration will generate hydrogen chloride, carcinogen dioxins endanger people's health.
When buying packaged food, consumers should not be confused by bright outer packaging, because some beautifully packaged boxed foods are more likely to contain toxic substances in their packaging.
Recently, the Fujian Provincial Administration for Industry and Commerce conducted a special supervision and spot check on the quality of food plastic packaging containers in the circulation field in the province, and found that the content of phthalate plasticizers in plastic containers produced by many enterprises exceeded the standard, including infant feeding tableware. Food safety problems caused by plastic packaging have long been common. In September 2011, the CCTV Financial Channel "Consumption Proposition" column exposed that mooncake trays contained a large number of plasticizers that exceeded the standard during the Mid-Autumn Festival. In June this year, the media exposed the Wufangzhai rice dumpling mildew incident, which was confirmed to be the illegal use of plastic packaging. In August, the International Food Packaging Association's food packaging quality survey exposed that the evaporation residue of disposable plastic tableware in many large supermarket chains in Guangdong exceeded the standard.
